The German knows he will have to perform at his best in order to secure a role in the Gunners midfield.
There is firm competition for places in the Gunners squad these days, with midfield an area where there is intense rivalry for starting berths.
Ozil has more than earned his place in the side after impressing during the second half of last season, but Arsene Wenger has been saying that the upcoming campaign will be a big one for the German.
He is aware of that, and says he is keen to continue his progress at the Emirates.
“I know that I have a lot more potential to show but if you look at the last two years, we’ve been successful and have won the FA Cup twice,” he told arsenal.com.
“Every season you need to prove yourself again and I want to do that again this time. I want to help the team as much as I can. Ultimately we have a strong team that can win everything. Our aim is to be more successful this season than we were in the last.”
Increased competition may force Ozil to perform
Many will certainly be hoping that next season is a big one for Ozil, as despite his impressive performances, he is yet to hit the heights he previously scaled with Real Madrid.
His assist record at the Bernabeu is well documented, with him building a formidable relationship with the Madrid forward line. It is a side to his game he is yet to really show at the Emirates, although he has performed well nonetheless.
Hopefully the increased competition in the squad will push his game to greater levels, with the likes of Jack Wilshere in particular sure to be pushing him all the way for a starting place next season.
If he does manage to up his game, it is not hard to imagine Arsene Wenger’s side competing for the Premier League title with the German pulling the strings.
