Manchester United secured a comfortable win in their latest pre-season friendly game against San Jose Earthquakes.

Manchester United secured a comfortable 3-1 against San Jose Earthquakes in their latest pre-season friendly game, with a goal for new signing Memphis Depay.

United are still searching for a little bit of fluency ahead of the new Premier League season, with it being very important for the Old Trafford side to get off to a good start as the hunt the Premier League title.

A deal for Depay was announced some time ago and Louis van Gaal will be pleased to have seen the player get his first goal for the club, which should help to improve his confidence ahead of higher intensity and more important matches.

It will be interesting to see what sort of role and responsibility van Gaal hands to Depay next season, but it’s likely he will be installed down one side of the pitch and urged to get at the opposition full-back, causing some chaos on a weekly basis.

He’s looking sharp, he’s looking quick and he’s looking fit, with the latter of those assessments always a worry for any manager with new players during any pre-season schedule ahead of an important season.

He also seems to have settled in effectively, dismissing the notion of a settling in period which can sometimes prevent a new signing from having an instant impact with the club he has just joined.

Manchester United now face games against Barcelona and French giants Paris Saint-Germain, which will create more difficult opportunities for the Dutchman to impress.

If he can have a big impact in both of those games then it will help to further cement the idea that United have got their hands on a very talented player, who will have a big say over the next ten to eleven months.

Here’s what Manchester United fans had to say on Twitter over Depay’s goal and performance.
