Former Liverpool hero Luis Suarez sends Tweet to club legend Steven Gerrard after friendly clash

The two faced each other for their new teams Barcelona and LA Galaxy.

Last night saw Los Angeles Galaxy and Barcelona go head-to-head in a pre-season friendly and in the process two former Liverpool heroes went toe-to-toe.

The players in question are of course former Liverpool captain and club legend Steven Gerrard and former goalscoring hero Luis Suarez, both of whom remain very popular among the Liverpool faithful.

Gerrard left Liverpool this summer, heading to California after spending his entire career at his hometown club. He played 708 games for the club, scoring 186 goals, and his departure sparked emotional farewells from Liverpool fans.

Suarez left in different circumstances, joining Barcelona in a mega-money move in 2014 after falling foul of the British press once again.

He has since gone on to help Barcelona to a famous treble and last night he scored as Barcelona got the better of Gerrard’s MLS outfit 2-1.

This morning the Uruguayan, who played 133 times and scored 82 goals for Liverpool, sent out this Twitter message to his followers, stating the pride he felt in facing his old friend once again.

Liverpool fans will be wishing both men all the best of luck in their adventures in the upcoming season as they continue to embark on their post-Anfield careers.
