Arsenal media round-up: Szczesny reportedly in talks over loan move away

A round up of news stories this morning related to Arsenal.

ESPN has reported that Arsenal goalkeeper Wojciech Szczesny has held talks with Italian side Roma over a possible loan deal.

The Pole could realistically leave the club this summer after Petr Cech was signed from Chelsea earlier in the transfer window.

ESPN suggests that a season long loan is on the cards, with an option to make any move permanent.

The Daily Express has reported that Arsenal have been put on red alert by a bid from Juventus for German star Julian Draxler.

Draxler is a player Arsenal have been linked with extensively in the past according to the paper and someone they may still be tempted by.

Juventus’s opening offer for the player is thought to be some way short of the valuation place on him by Schalke.

Arsenal defender Per Mertesacker has been quoted by the Glasgow Evening Times suggesting that his team need to get off to a flying start in the Premier League this season.

The German centre back feels the Gunners have a good chance of taking the Premier League title, but has stressed that the club need to start the season well.

Arsenal played well for large chunks of the last campaign, but only really excelled over the second half of the season.

“We need to be at our best. We have shown in the (FA) Cup that we can be consistent for six games. We want to extend that and show that we are real title contenders from the start, not only in the second half of the season,” he said.
