Report: Sheffield Wednesday make enquiry for Fouad Chafik

Sheffield Wednesday

Sheffield Wednesday are keen on signing the Stade Laval defender.

According to Get French Football News, Wednesday have made enquiries into the availability of Fouad Chafik, currently playing with Ligue 2 side Stade Laval.

A right-back, he has been linked with a number of clubs from France’s Ligue 1, including the likes of Montpellier, Nantes and Lorient, whilst Wednesday are the only team from England said to be tracking him.

However, as of today, the Championship club have yet to submit a formal approach for Chafik, as they continue an impressive summer rebuild.

Who is Fouad Chafik?

Chafik, 28, is a right-back who has played his entire career in France. A regular around the lower leagues, he won his first cap for Morocco earlier this year, making his debut in an AFCON qualification victory over Libya - playing the full 90 minutes.

He has played for FC Istres and AS Valence, prior to his spell with Laval, with whom he has made 41 appearances. Very much a defensive right-back, he leaves the attacking play to the dedicated attackers, and benefits in his own game because of it.

He has just one year left on his contract, and could be available for a budget price, and Chafik has certainly shown he has the talent that could make him a success in English football.
