Ferdinand said: “There were a lot of clubs in for him, including some from the Premier League, so it’s pleasing that he’s decided to come here. He had offers to earn much more money elsewhere, but he’s chosen QPR because he feels he can progress here as a player and that’s fantastic.”
Signing Chery should be considered a real coup for the R’s, especially with Villa submitting offers for him, as per the Birmingham Mail.
He was one of the best attacking midfielders in the Eredivisie last term, scoring 17 goals and registering 12 assists in 42 games, and the 27-year-old has is far above Championship quality.
Villa’s interest was viable as he would have improved their squad, but QPR have managed to bring in a player who should aid them in the search for promotion back to the top flight.
Ferdinand believes Chery opted to move to Loftus Road due to the growth he can undergo at the club, with first-team chances almost guaranteed with the R’s.
He will be a key part of Chris Ramsey’s plans for the upcoming campaign, and the Championship side have arguably completed one of the best signings of the summer by managing to bring Chery at Loftus Road.
