There is high expectation that the Liverpool youngster can fill the boots of the departed winger.
The England winger completed a big-money move to Manchester City last week after months of speculation regarding his future at Anfield.
While manager Brendan Rodgers was reluctant to lose one of his star men ahead of the new season, the disappointment has been eased by the fact that many believe Ibe can step up and replace his former colleague.
Aldridge is one of those buying into that way of thinking, pointing out that he will now get the opportunities to show what he is capable of.
“Jordon Ibe played well for Liverpool yesterday (against Adelaide United) but he has so much more to offer,” he wrote on Kicca.
“I believe he's as good as Sterling and has the potential to be even better. He now has a great opportunity to step up and show what he can do.”
Can Ibe be better than Sterling?
Whether Ibe can be better than Sterling has shown so far in his career will likely depend on how much game time he is afforded in the future.
Sterling was given his breakthrough by Rodgers, enjoying a meteoric rise on his way to becoming an England regular, with his move to City secured on the back of increased game time in Premier League and international arenas.
From what we have seen of Ibe so far, if he were to be given similar opportunities at club level, he certainly has the talent to tread the same path. Whether that path starts with being a Liverpool regular next season, though, remains to be seen.
