HITC Sport understands that an approach from the Trotters has been rebuffed by the Scottish champions.

Scottish Premiership champions Celtic have rejected an approach from Championship outfit Bolton Wanderers regarding the availability of Efe Ambrose, HITC Sport understands from sources close to the attempted deal.

Trotters chief Neil Lennon is a big fan of the Nigerian defender, having signed him during his time as Celtic boss.

Ambrose has been with Celtic since 2012 and has played over 130 games for The Bhoys, but he has long been linked with a move to England and this summer’s transfer window is proving to be no different.

The likes of Crystal Palace, West Ham United and Fulham have been credited with holding an interest in the past – as reported by the Scotsman - along with Greek giants Olympiakos – according to the Daily Mail - but Celtic appear intent on keeping him.

Lennon was hoping Celtic would be open to letting Ambrose move on, but the Glasgow-based side have rebuffed their enquiry out of hand.
