HITC Sport understands from sources close to the club that Blackburn Rovers are in talks to sign Caen forward Bengali-Fode Koita.
Fode Koita is a free agent after leaving Caen earlier this summer and Blackburn are ready to offer the versatile attacker the chance to move to England.
The 24-year-old, who can play up front or on the wing, is a former France Under-21 international.
Fode Koita started his career at Montpellier, but he failed to hold down a regular place in the side and enjoyed two spells out on loan at Lens and Le Havre before joining Caen in the summer of 2013.
The pacy attacker scored nine goals in 64 appearances for Caen and his performances caught the attention of Blackburn scouts.
Blackburn boss Gary Bowyer is in the market for attacking reinforcements after losing Josh King to Bournemouth this summer, while doubts surround the long-term futures of Jordan Rhodes and Rudy Gestede.
If Blackburn clinch a deal for Fode Koita he will become the club's first signing of the summer with the club only able to sign free agents or make loan signings due to the transfer embargo they are under.
