The West Ham United player is getting closer to a return to full fitness.

West Ham United striker Andy Carroll has taken to Twitter to give a fitness update as he continues his preparations for the upcoming Premier League campaign.

The 26-year-old underwent knee surgery back in February and subsequently missed the rest of the season.

In total Carroll played just 16 times for West Ham as he also missed the start of the campaign due to an ankle ligament injury, and when you consider his previous Achilles problem he has been blighted by a string of unfortunate setbacks.

But he will be hoping they are now well and truly behind him, and on Monday he took to social media to post an encouraging message to his followers.

“Another positive running session today under my belt,” the West Ham star wrote, before adding the hashtag 'Feeling good', and that is positive news both for him and his new manager Slaven Bilic.

The Hammers have impressed with their summer spending to date, bringing in the likes of Dimitri Payet, Angelo Ogbonna and Pedro Obiang, but a fit-and-firing Carroll could still prove an effective weapon in their final year at Upton Park.

Only time will tell if he will ever be able to show what he can do at West Ham on a consistent basis, having netted just 14 times since he arrived.
