A year ago Manchester United fans were hanging on every development regarding the future of Arturo Vidal.

Spanish newspaper Marca memorably claimed the Chilean was 'packing his bags' to clinch a switch to Old Trafford, while Red Devils fans thought they may have their man after the midfielder was pictured signing a fan's United shirt while on Juventus' summer tour, as reported The Mail.

Juventus stood firm, determined to hang onto the midfielder, amid a time of transition after Antonio Conte surprisingly quit the club.

Now Juventus CEO Beppe Marotta has uttered the words United fans were desperate to hear 12 months ago.

He was quoted by ESPN: "Vidal has expressed a desire to embark on a different experience, as did Tevez, Pirlo and Ogbonna."

The Guardian report Vidal is set to move to Bayern Munich, for a price of £28 million.

So why no outcry this time around?

Vidal was seen as the midfield dynamo United desperately needed, but just in the past few weeks the club have made huge strides to improve what was previously seen as a problem area.

Bastian Schweinsteiger signed from Bayern, and will be a real leader on and off the pitch, and is a real favourite of Louis van Gaal.

His signing was complemented by the addition of Southampton's Morgan Schneiderlin, a proven Premier League player, while Daley Blind and Ander Herrera showed themselves to be very useful players last season. Even Marouane Fellaini stepped up.

The lack of desire among fans to close a deal for Vidal this summer shows how the club have adjusted, with signing a top striker and improving at centre-back far more pressing priorities for Van Gaal's side.
