Uwe Rosler told Leeds United’s official website that Kalvin Phillips, Lewis Walters and Lewis Coyle have all impressed him during the early stages of their pre-season tour of Austria and Norway.
The trio – Coyle, Walters and Phillips - will have the chance to use the pre-season tour to show Rosler they are ready for first-team duties when the Championship season kicks-off on 8th August.
Rosler told the official website: "Coyley, Kalvin and Lewis Walters are three young players in a first-team environment with an opportunity to impress and to learn.
"They can show high energy to put established players under pressure and that is what they’re doing. They’re impressive. I like what I see – I hope they continue."
Who, out of the three, has the greatest chance of being in the matchday squad come 8th August?
Phillips broke into the first-team picture in the latter stages of last season and will no doubt be in Rosler’s mind when the season kicks-off.
The 20-year-old made two appearances for the Whites, both from the start, and scored the only goal in a 2-1 defeat to Cardiff City in his last appearance.
For Walters and Coyle, however, they will need to be at their very best if they are to make the matchday squad for Leeds’ game against promotion rivals Burnley on 8th August.
Walters has only made the bench twice during his Leeds career, while Coyle is yet to achieve that milestone. Nevertheless, it certainly seems like Rosler is prepared to give them the chance to impress.
Phillips, barring injury or lack of form, looks a certainty to at least be on the bench for Leeds in their match against Burnley. However, for Walters and Coyle, it will take an huge impact to show they are more deserving than further established players in the side.
