Newly promoted Norwich City are showing a late interest in Anderlecht's Chancel Mbemba, report The Sun.
The centre-back is a DR Congo international, and is a highly rated prospect, being just 20 and having played in the Champions League.
Mbemba was left out of Anderlecht's team to face Lazio in a friendly on Sunday night, as reported The Guardian.
Newcastle are close to completing a deal to sign striker Aleksandar Mitrovic, Mbemba's Anderlecht teammate.
This will not only help persuade Mbemba that Newcastle are his best option, but from a practical perspective it gives them an advantage in negotiations over Norwich.
The Canaries have made three signings so far this transfer window, bringing in Graham Dorrans and Youssuf Mulumbu.
Any deal for Mbemba would be subject to a successful work permit hearing.
