Amavi, 21, left Nice for Villa Park over the weekend, penning a five-year deal with the club after a strong season with the French club last term.
Now, with former Lille star Idrissa Gueye also signed this month, Villa boss Tim Sherwood could return to France for even more reinforcements - with Plea a new target.
France Football report that Plea is on Sherwood's radar, with the Villa boss seemingly looking to secure a reunion between Amavi and Plea this summer, despite the latter having three years left on his contract with Claude Puel's men.
The 22-year-old only left Lyon to join Nice last summer, but three goals in 33 games and a number of impressive displays have seen his stock shoot up recently.
Plea can play out wide or up front, which would offer Sherwood a versatile attacking option, where he can use his pace to cause problems in the final third.
Having already signed two players from French football this summer, Sherwood may well be moving for another - but Nice will be reluctant to sell the forward given his strong debut season with the club.
