HITC Sport understands Aston Villa goalkeeper Jed Steer has emerged as a possible target for Scotland.
HITC Sport understands from souces close to the player that Scotland are looking into the eligibility of Aston Villa goalkeeper Jed Steer.
Scotland boss Gordon Strachan and his scouting team are looking at possible players they could bring into the national team set-up and Steer has emerged on their radar despite representing England all the way through from Under-16 level to Under-19 level.
Steer began his career at hometown club Norwich City and made two first-team appearances for the club before linking up with former Canaries boss Paul Lambert at Aston Villa in 2013.
The 22-year-old has made four first-team appearances for Villa since joining the club, including making his Premier League bow in the final game of last season against Burnley.
Steer enjoyed two spells out on loan at Doncaster Rovers and Yeovil Town last season, keeping 12 clean sheets in 25 appearances during those two loan stints.
Steer could be in the running for Villa's No.1 shirt next season with Shay Given having left for Stoke City and doubts surrounding the future of former first-choice goalkeeper Brad Guzan after he was dropped in favour of Given at the back end of last season.
Strachan has been alerted to Steer's talents and is now exploring the possibility of getting the keeper to pledge his international allegiance to Scotland.
