With Chris Duvall out injured, the homegrown defender made his third straight start in Saturday’s match at Kaka-led Orlando City SC and helped his side earn a 2-0 victory with four tackles and five interceptions.
CB – Jared Watts (Colorado Rapids)
Along with Irwin, Watts also held his own against the Seattle attack, before setting up striker Kevin Doyle’s 84th-minute winner with a wonderfully crafted long ball.
The Manchester City loanee put in another fine performance in Saturday’s 1-0 defeat at the New England Revolution, recording four tackles, four interceptions and a match-leading 13 clearances.
LB – Ryan Hollingshead (FC Dallas)
The makeshift left-back managed three tackles, six interceptions, five won headers and two key passes as resurgent Dallas beat D.C. United 2-1 at Toyota Stadium on Saturday night.
RM – Ethan Finlay (Columbus Crew)
The Crew clinched back-to-back victories over the Chicago Fire in Week 20 thanks to their in-form winger, who bagged his league-leading 11th assist of the season in mid-week, before earning a penalty and completing the scoring in Sunday night’s 3-1 home win.
CM – Steven Gerrard (LA Galaxy)
The ex-Liverpool skipper enjoyed a dream MLS debut on Friday night, winning a penalty, opening his Galaxy account and recording an assist in a 5-2 victory over archrivals San Jose Earthquakes.
CM – Dax McCarty (New York Red Bulls)
The Red Bulls skipper set up both of his side’s goals against hometown team Orlando, while completing 86 per cent of his 76 passes at the Citrus Bowl.
LM – Sebastian Lletget (LA Galaxy)
The former West Ham United prospect bagged his sixth in 12 games since arriving from Upton Park earlier this season in the win over San Jose.
ST – Sebastian Giovinco (Toronto FC)
After last weekend’s hat-trick, TFC’s star man could manage just the one goal in the 2-1 home win over the Philadelphia Union but it wasn’t for lack of effort, having fired off eight shots during another influential outing.
ST – Robbie Keane (LA Galaxy)
The Irishman made sure he shared some of the headlines with former Liverpool teammate Gerrard, bagging the fourth hat-trick of his MLS career to make it nine goals in 12 appearances this season.
