Former Liverpool midfielder Dietmar Hamann has praised the potential of winger Jordon Ibe.
Ibe is currently on pre-season tour with the Reds, and featured in this morning's early friendly match against Adelaide.
The youngster broke into the Liverpool first team last season before injury delayed his progress, but he has returned full of the vibrancy which saw him stand out on his debut in the Merseyside derby.
Hamann was impressed, hailing him via his Twitter feed, as a player England have lacked for the best part of the last two decades.
Ibe is a special talent. He's got every attribute an offensive player needs. A player England lacked in last 20 years.— Didi Hamann (@DietmarHamann) July 20, 2015
This led to the inevitable question regarding new Manchester City signing Raheem Sterling, as to who was and can be the better player.
Hamann answered to respond that he feels Ibe has the potential to go onto eclipse his now former teammate.
Potentially yes Steve. Sterling a better player now but Ibe got lots of improvement in him. Could be anything, https://t.co/xfTodSdfL3— Didi Hamann (@DietmarHamann) July 20, 2015
Liverpool could really do with a big season from Ibe, who could very quickly make them forget about Sterling's departure.
The performances he showed in 2014/15 displayed real promise, and while it is easy to get carried away in the combination of hyperbole and pre-season, if expectations are kept realistic then Brendan Rodgers may have a real gem on his hands.
