West Ham players react on Twitter after Southend victory, including teenager Samuelsen

West Ham beat Southend United 3-2 in a pre-season friendly on Saturday.

West Ham United continued their pre-season preparations on Saturday afternoon with a 3-2 win over Southend United at Roots Hall.

The Hammers, who beat Maltese side Birkirkara 1-0 in the Europa League on Thursday, were back in pre-season action on Saturday afternoon with a trip to face Phil Brown's Southend.

Two goals from Dimitri Payet stole the show, with an own goal from Shrimpers defender Luke Prosser handing West Ham a victory.

The win will be a boost for manager Slaven Bilic, who is gearing up for his debut campaign as a Premier League boss - and the brace from new signing Payet will be particularly pleasing.

The performance of teenager Martin Samuelsen, a summer arrival from Manchester City, also caught the eye, with the Norwegian racking up assists for all three goals.

The man of the moment at Upton Park took to Twitter after the game to react to the victory, as did left back Stephen Hendrie and midfielder Diego Poyet.
