A player heavily linked with Tottenham Hotspur may be set for a surprise move to the Madrid giants.
The 30-year-old has regularly been linked with Tottenham Hotspur this summer, with Tuttosport claiming just last week that Mauricio Pochettino’s side had offered Llorente a contract of the highest order to move to White Hart Lane.
However, TMW now reports that Real Madrid manager Rafa Benitez sees Llorente as the perfect alternative to Karim Benzema, suggesting a return to Spain is on the cards for the forward.
If the news is true, it could come as a blow to Tottenham who need to strengthen their forward-line this summer.
Only Harry Kane impressed last season with fellow strikers Roberto Soldado and Emmanuel Adebayor looking out of sorts and failing to net the goals required of them.
Llorente himself has not had the best of times recently, scoring just 27 goals in 90 appearances for Juventus. But his form for former club Athletic Bilbao means he is still highly-regarded in his homeland, with Benitez seemingly one of his fans.
If Tottenham miss out on Llorente – assuming they were interested in the first place of course – it may not be a bad thing.
They would instead be wise to focus on younger alternatives that would still bring quality to their strike-force and potentially have considerably cheaper wages.
