Southampton signing Jordy Clasie was in action for the first time in the south coast outfit's friendly victory over Eredivisie outfit FC Groningen.
It proved to be a straightforward victory as Ronald Koeman returned to his former club, with Jose Fonte, Sadio Mane and Graziano Pelle all finding the net for the visiting Saints. However, the main talking points focused around Clasie's first appearance in a Southampton shirt.
Joining for £8 million from Feyenoord - price according to BBC Sport - the 24-year-old became the club's fifth signing of the summer, just two days after midfielder Morgan Schneiderlin's £25m move to Manchester United.
Coming on as a substitute for Steven Davis at half-time during the club's latest friendly win, Clasie's arrival made a noticeable difference in the centre of the park. He is by no means the most physically intimidating of midfielders, but in terms of his technical ability, he is second-to-none.
The general consensus on the south coast suggests that the Dutchman is the perfect replacement for the departed Frenchman. He is expected to strike up a formidable central-midfield partnership with Kenyan international Victor Wanyama.
Southampton fans were full of positivity as their £8 million signing took to the field for the first time.
