Report: Newcastle United want Chelsea's Nathan Ake on loan

Can Steve McClaren's side tempt the Chelsea youngster into a temporary move?

Newcastle United are interested in signing Chelsea's 20-year-old talent Nathan Ake on loan, according to the Daily Mail.

Leicester City and Watford are also credited with interest in the Blues youngster, who can play both at left-back and in defensive midfield.

But the St James' Park outfit are most certainly in the bidding, too, as per the Mail, as the club look to build on their summer signing of Georginio Wijnaldum and the expected arrival of Aleksandar Mitrovic.

Newcastle's competition for the 20-year-old, should they genuinely throw their hat into the ring, is plentiful. Along with Leicester and Watford, the Daily Telegraph suggest Aston Villa also want Ake on loan after the departure of Fabian Delph to Manchester City.

But the Magpies have a unique selling point if they want to seal what could be a shrewd, short-term acquisition.

Indeed, the St James' Park atmosphere at its best is something very few clubs can match. Yes, Leicester, Watford and definitely Villa can offer superb match-day experiences but the Newcastle faithful will make sure Ake receives due gratitude should he choose the Tyneside outfit.

Working with Steve McClaren on the training ground, too, is another factor, with the former England boss known for his ability to coach youngsters (although Tim Sherwood has this going for him too!).
