The Southend boss was full of praise for the West Ham summer signing.
Southend manager Phil Brown admits West Ham United playmaker Dimitri Payet was so good he asked Slaven Bilic if he was going to take him off to make their friendly more even, according to the club's official website.
Payet was on the scoresheet during his West Ham debut and dazzled the Hammers faithful with glimpses of what his big-money signing promised.
And the 28-year-old's impact was not lost on rival boss Brown.
Indeed, he told Southend's official site: "I'm delighted for my chairman and for the Club that West Ham played a strong squad.
"There was one player - Dimitri Payet - who showed absolute quality and I asked Slaven whether he was going to take him off and make it more of an even game!"
Time to get excited?
The moment Payet arrived at Upton Park, he was generating enormous amounts of excitement from the West Ham faithful.
And the excitement isn't about to stop after Saturday afternoon's performance. Indeed, the 28-year-old produced goals, creativity and moments of magic. It was only a friendly but, as far as debuts go, it was a dream one.
Could the West Ham summer signing prove he is worth every penny? Payet isn't fully fit or match sharp yet. Just imagine how good he could be when he is - and if he maintains his current levels of enthusiasm and determination.
