The former Liverpool forward has had his say as the Aston Villa player reportedly nears a summer switch.
The BBC reported this weekend that the Aston Villa striker is due to have a medical at Liverpool after the two clubs reached an agreement for the player’s transfer.
The report goes on to suggest that Liverpool’s club doctor will travel back from their pre-season tour to complete the formalities in the next 48 hours.
Following the news, Owen wrote the following on his Twitter account via Sportlobster.com: “I’m a big admirer of Christian Benteke but it will be interesting to see if his style of play compliments Liverpool; Firmino, Sturridge and Benteke – I wonder how Brendan Rodgers will juggle them all and what formation he will use.”
Benteke played 34 matches for Villa last season, scoring 15 goals in the process, and he has a total of 49 goals in 101 matches for the club to date.
That may be the figure he ends on if he completes his move to Liverpool but it seems Owen is not completely convinced the 24-year-old is the answer for Rodgers.
Liverpool have no doubt impressed with their summer signings overall; the trick now is to blend them into an effective team…and that will bring with it a whole new set of challenges.
