Liverpool transfer news: Rickie Lambert on West Brom's radar; Christian Benteke set for medical

Anfield Night

A select round-up of the latest news relating to Liverpool

According to a report from the Birmingham Mail, Liverpool striker Rickie Lambert is on West Bromwich Albion’s summer shopping list but their manager, Tony Pulis, has other priorities.

The Baggies boss reportedly wants to bring in a new striker but for now the Liverpool front-man is just an option rather than a primary target.

Lambert only arrived at Anfield last summer following his move from Southampton, but the England international scored just three times in 36 appearances.

Liverpool have recently added Danny Ings and Roberto Firmino to their ranks, and while the latter is predominantly an attacking midfielder it seems Lambert’s chances will only become more limited if he remains next season.

In other news, the Sunday People claims Liverpool target Christian Benteke is holding out for a move to one of the clubs competing in next season’s Champions League.

Liverpool have reportedly activated his £32.5million release-clause but the Belgian international is said to be reluctant to sign a contract until he knows whether the likes of Arsenal and Manchester United will bid for his services.

Liverpool are arguably one quality striker away from completing their squad, but Benteke is not necessarily the answer, with someone like Alexandre Lacazette a much better fit at Anfield right now.

However, according to a report from Sky Sports News this morning, Benteke is expected to complete his medical at Liverpool in the next 48 hours after an agreement was reached between the two clubs.

So perhaps the forward is thinking longer term after all, rather than seeking an immediate shot at Europe's elite competition.
