The Arsenal manager has stated that the England international, who scored against Everton yesterday, is in great condition.
Walcott spent the bulk of last term on the sidelines due to injury and found a starting berth in the North London club’s team hard to come by when he available again.
However the signs are good that the England international is ready to start 2015-16 with a bang, as Wenger has praised the attacker for his conditioning ahead of the new campaign.
“He is sharp and prepared well,” the French coach told the Arsenal official website.
“He is like every player - they look fit, close to full fitness. It’s quite amazing how the players are back to a good body shape and a good [level] of fitness because they prepare well.
“Now football has changed - they come back after holidays and they don’t start from zero. They have done their homework and he is one of them.”
Walcott has made his desire to play as a central striker known and will fight it out with Olivier Giroud for a number nine berth next term. Danny Welbeck and Alexis Sanchez, who operate in other areas, are also options for Wenger as the furthest man forward.
The English star’s contract is also running down but there has been no news as yet over a potential extension.
