Predicted Manchester City starting line-up in August; Sterling and Delph included

Manchester City have completed the signings of Raheem Sterling and Fabian Delph from Liverpool and Aston Villa respectively.

Manchester City head into the new campaign with a new lease of life following the subsequent signings of Raheem Sterling and Fabian Delph from Liverpool and Aston Villa respectively.

The Citizens finished last season in second spot, eight points behind Premier League winners Chelsea and just four points clear of Arsenal in third.

Heading into the summer, there was uncertainty surrounding boss Manuel Pellegrini and a number of the club’s playing staff, owing to a rather disappointing trophy-less campaign.

Moreover, the much-discussed Financial Fair Play regulations seemingly had a tight grip on City’s transfer plans, with the club and French giants Paris Saint-Germain previously coming under heavy scrutiny.

However, the rules seemed to have been adjusted since and the club were given the green light to make some important additions, starting with England international Raheem Sterling from Liverpool.

The 20-year-old winger scored seven and assisted a further seven in 34 Premier League games, not quite as good as the previous season but still impressive considering the Reds’ apparent struggles.

Sterling played as a striker on a number of occasions last season, though for the upcoming campaign he’s likely to be deployed as a winger with licence to get forward and support the strikers.

Following the official signing of Delph from Aston Villa on Friday, the talented star will surely get his chance in City’s midfield as Fernandinho and Fernando have on occasions flattered to deceive

As per the predicted line-up above, he may take his place alongside Yaya Toure in a midfield two, with Sterling and David Silva pushing wide in attack and forming part of a 4-4-2 when defending.

It’s a system previously deployed by Carlo Ancelotti at Real Madrid, and it allows Pellegrini to use both Wilfried Bony and Sergio Aguero as a potentially lethal front-two partnership.
