Trevor Sinclair says Delph is better than Fernando and Fernandinho

The former Manchester City midfielder has backed the 25-year-old's move from Aston Villa.

Ex-Manchester City man and current BBC pundit Trevor Sinclair has defended former Aston Villa midfielder Fabian Delph over his move to Manuel Pellegrini's side on Twitter.

Indeed, Sinclar feels Delph is better than both Fernando and Fernandinho, meaning the England international will get plenty of opportunities to play in the first team at City.

The 25-year-old has been criticised for many things by Aston Villa - namely his lack of loyalty - but questions over whether he was right to leave for footballing reasons have prompted the following view from Sinclair:

Both Fernando and Fernandinho were criticised for their role in Manchester City's failed Premier League title defence last term, with Fernando in particular taking flak for his performances at the Etihad Stadium.

Fernandinho has proven himself since moving to Manchester but was caught off guard last season. The younger Fernando, however, struggled in several key games from the off after making the move to City last summer.

Delph is younger than both and, considering Manchester City's problems in central midfield last campaign, can certainly count himself in with a chance of starting at the Etihad. But is that chance really strong enough to have justified leaving Aston Villa for footballing reasons?
