The defender has been a revelation for the Toffees since joining from Barnsley in 2013 under former manager David Moyes.
It is the arrival of Roberto Martinez at Goodison Park that has sparked his rise to prominence, with the Spaniard having shown great faith in the youngster and seen him revel in the first-team ranks to excel alongside Phil Jagielka.
Redknapp, though, claims that his former club were looking at the England international at one stage.
“We had a look at him when I was at Spurs but we didn’t go for him as we had Kyle Walker,” he wrote on Kicca.
Another missed opportunity for Tottenham
Stones is the latest in a long line of players Redknapp claims his old side were interested in, with him having revealed that he had his eye on a number of performers that have gone on to become Premier League stars in the past.
Liverpool’s Nathaniel Clyne was reportedly on offer when he was at Crystal Palace, as revealed on Kicca, while he also told talkSPORT that Chelsea stars Eden Hazard and Thibaut Courtois both agreed moves to White Hart Lane but were not confirmed quickly enough.
The addition of Stones to that list will certainly have Spurs fans wondering what may have been, as the players Redknapp has mentioned would certainly have given the club a shot at Premier League title glory, never mind Champions League qualification.
It is, of course, easy to criticise with the benefit of hindsight, but it seems the club have missed several big opportunities in recent years. Who Redknapp claims they were interested in next, remains to be seen.
