Aston Villa boss Tim Sherwood has told the club's official website that he is delighted to have signed left back Jordan Amavi from Nice.
The Villa boss has had a tough 24 hours having lost midfielder Fabian Delph to Manchester City, but he has given himself and the fans a boost with the signing of Amavi.
The 21-year-old has come up through the ranks at Nice, and enjoyed a superb season last term, playing 36 games for Claude Puel's side over the course of the campaign.
Now though, the French Under-21 international is now leaving the French club, having penned a five-year contract with Aston Villa, with Sherwood's men paying around £10m for the defender, according to the Birmingham Mail.
Speaking to the Aston Villa official website, Sherwood hailed the deal, believing that he has managed to sign a 'terrific young player'.
"I'm delighted to have secured the services of someone we consider to be a terrific young player," said Sherwood. "Jordan has been one of the outstanding players in Ligue 1 and is still very young and can become even better. There were a lot of clubs after him this summer so we are really pleased to welcome him to the Club," he added.
Starting back four
Sherwood has now strengthened a previously wobbly defence, with Micah Richards and now Amavi arriving at Villa Park this summer.
It's unclear whether Richards will be playing at centre back or right back, but with Jores Okore and Ciaran Clark also in the mix, Amavi could make it a solid back four for Villa.
Amavi's attacking qualities also make him a good fit to play at left wing back, which would enable Richards to play as a central defender in a back three - though then the attention will turn to signing a right wing back for Villa. Either way, Villa have landed a promising defender who can give them options going forward, making him an ideal signing.
