The star duo have been handed a long off-season break by the Catalan club to counteract their summer involvement in the Copa America.
The duo, along with Javier Mascherano, have been excluded from the contingent due to their involvement in this summer’s Copa America and will be given an extended off-season break ahead of the upcoming 2015-16 campaign.
American fans will get the chance to see two of Barcelona’s new signings in action however, as Arda Turan and Aleix Vidal have both been included in the contingent to head Stateside.
The reigning Spanish and European champions are set for high-profile exhibition clashes against LA Galaxy, Manchester United and Chelsea in preparation for the new European campaign.
Messi and Neymar’s absence will dull the sense of excitement to some degree due to their star following and popularity across the globe.
A number of young starlets, such as Alen Halilovic, Munir and Sergi Samper have been included and will hope to make an impression on the pitch if given a chance.
