Southampton midfielder Jordy Clasie has taken to Twitter after playing for his new club for the first time.
The Dutchman arrived at St Mary’s last week from Feyenoord for around £8million and the 24-year-old will be tasked with replacing the departed Morgan Schneiderlin.
Clasie has been linked with a move to England for some time so it is quite a coup for Southampton to sign him at arguably the perfect time. After all, he is still young enough to improve but he is old enough to bring an element of experience to the club.
Southampton played against Groningen on Saturday, winning 3-0 courtesy of goals from Jose Fonte, Sadio Mane and Graziano Pelle.
It was a promising performance and allowed Saints manager Ronald Koeman to take a closer look at a number of his first-team stars, with Clasie coming off the bench at half-time and getting some important minutes under his belt.
After the match, Southampton’s new man took to Twitter to write: “Proud to make my debut for Southampton.”
Short and sweet it may be but there is no doubt Southampton have another great player on their hands.
