West Ham United continue their pre-season preparations with a match against Southend this weekend.
The Hammers have had an interesting summer to date, because in truth their competitive campaign kicked off with the Europa League qualifying clash against Lusitans at the start of the month.
Since then those European exploits have been interspersed with friendly games against English-based opponents and the latest is a match against Southend.
A strong West Ham side drew 3-3 with Peterborough last weekend and since then Slaven Bilic’s side have beaten Birkirkara 1-0 in the second-qualifying round of the European competition.
West Ham have a number of players pushing for regular first-team chances next season and this match will give some of them another chance to impress.
Summer signings Darren Randolph, Martin Samuelsen, Dimitri Payet and Angelo Ogbonna all start in what is a very strong line-up.
