The agent and former Celtic forward seems to agree with many supporters.
Indeed, Deila went the way many expected him to against Stjarnan in the Champions League, starting new signing Ciftci ahead of last season's top scorer Griffiths.
In recent days, however, many Celtic fans have taken to Twitter and the comments section on HITC Sport to suggest the Norwegian would do well to play both up front for the Bhoys.
And that's a theory Van Hooijdonk, now an agent having played for the Hoops as a striker himself, can get on board with.
He feels Ciftci and Griffiths would complement each other as a partnership. He is quoted as saying by the Record: "He’s a poacher. You can tell. Nadir is not like that. He can play on the left, he can play on the right. He can be either striker.
"Griffiths is a guy who plays the No.9 position. Of course it’s up the manager but I think they could fit well together.
"What one is missing the other has. They complement each other. It could be an option to put them together for the second game in Iceland."
Deila also has Stefan Scepovic and Anthony Stokes waiting in the wings but neither look like they will challenge in terms of Celtic's first-choice partnership. It will be interesting to see how the Bhoys boss approaches the Scottish champions' return Champions League qualifying leg in Iceland.
Whoever plays, though, they'll just need to remember to leave the penalties to Griffiths...
