Following the sale of lightning fast Aleix Vidal to Barcelona earlier in the summer, Sevilla have been searching for a replacement at right-back. Now it appears they've encountered the perfect option, with the arrival of another player renowned for his speed and acceleration.
On Friday night, Sevilla officially announced an "agreement in principal" with French side Bordeaux, which will see Brazilian 29-year-old Mariano Ferreira head to the Sanchez-Pizjuan stadium, pending the formality of passing his medical.
The player is expected to arrive in the Spanish city on Sunday and if all goes to plan, he will sign a three-year contract with Sevilla, which will also feature a release clause valuation of €20 million.
The transfer fee agreed between Sevilla and Bordeaux has yet to be officially declared, however, according to Andalucian outlet Estadio Deportivo, the operation is thought to have cost around €4 million.
Back in his home country of Brazil, Mariano is regarded as a very complete player, considered one of the best footballers of the 2010 Brasileirao, when he won the league title with Fluminense.
After moving to Bordeaux in 2012, Mariano made a total of 141 appearances and scored 4 goals. He also helped them to silverware, winning the Coupe de France during the 2012-13 season.
