When asked about the deal, Martinez replied: “No, there is no truth. I can tell you that there is nothing on that.”
This certainly ends the claims that Everton were looking to sign Evans, who has been linked with a number of Premier League sides.
However, a number of their Premier League rivals are also interested, with the Daily Mail claiming that West Brom have been tracking him, as well as Tottenham, Aston Villa and Sunderland - all reported in the Daily Star.
He has a wealth of Premier League interest, and at 27-years-old still has his bets years ahead of him. However, the 2014/15 season showed Evans’s limitations, as he failed to adapt to Louis van Gaal’s ball-playing style, and confidence issues resulted in a high number of errors.
Martinez has claimed that Everton’s reported deal for Evans is not truthful, but even if not, the Toffees could do much worse than look at the centre-back, as the Merseyside club need to bring in defensive reinforcements this summer.
