Micah Richards’ words on Manchester City helped to sway Fabian Delph’s decision

The former Aston Villa captain completed his £8 million switch to the Etihad on Friday.


Fabian Delph signed a five-year deal with Manchester City on Friday after a remarkable U-turn, and former City star Micah Richards seems to have played a role in his decision.

Speaking on the Blues’ official website, Delph cited several factors that influenced his decision to move, one of which was Richards’ glowing reference for the club.

“…and Micah Richards told me that as far as he is concerned, this is the best club in the world and he had the time of his life here," he said.

Villa fans may not appreciate that admission, especially given the painful nature of the whole transfer saga.

City had activated his release clause last week and the completion of the move seemed a mere formality before the 25-year old rejected City’s advances.

Rumours surfaced that Richards had warned the England international against a City move, but the Villa new boy took to Twitter to deny those claims:
