According to German news outlet Revier Sport, Arsenal are set to make an improved offer for highly rated Borussia Dortmund striker Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang.
Revier Sport's, report suggests the Gunners are set to make an improved offer of more than £30million for the Gabon international after failing with an initial £28.7million bid. However, Dortmund are understood to be unwilling to accept any offer below £31million after the club allowed Ciro Immobile to join Sevilla last week.
Arsene Wenger's side were not short of goals last season but the general consensus suggests that the club will not challenge for the title next season without the addition of an accomplished striker over the summer window. Aubameyang is one of the few forwards that fit the Gunners' criteria but they will be made to spend big if they want to secure his services.
What do the stats say?
Aubameyang excelled last term, proving himself to be one of the Bundesliga’s most prolific attackers. He scored 16 goals in total, while fashioning 45 chances for his team-mates. To put this into context, only Shinji Kagawa (48) and Marco Reus (49) created more than him for the German outfit.
Aside from his quality of finishing - he converted 19.8% of his total attempts last season - and eye for a key pass, Aubameyang's strengths lie in his pace and athleticism, which assists his ability to carry the ball for his side. Indeed, last term the 26-year-old completed 22 of his 44 attempted take ons - a 50% success rate.
The Gabon international would be an impressive coup for the Gunners; a marquee signing, in fact. He has displayed his excellent ability throughout his time at Dortmund and it is clear to see that his skill-set and athletic ability would see him thrive in England. After all, there is a reason he is so highly rated across the continent.
