He said: “We are in discussions. I find it difficult to indicate that there is an agreement. However, it looks to be now that the deal will take place.”
This certainly hands a transfer boost to Watford, who look guaranteed to get ahold of their man.
A move for Berghuis seemed to come out of nowhere, with the Guardian claiming that a £3.5 million deal was set to be completed.
However, the deal is not that far through yet, with Stewart confirming that talks have been held, but that no agreement has been made.
He believes that Berghius will join the Hornets this summer, and it looks as if Watford will be signing a player with real talent.
Berghuis, 23, has been one of the most prolific forwards in the Eredivisie in recent years, despite generally playing on the right wing. He netted 11 goals and registered five assists in 22 games last term, and is the fifth ranking player in terms of minutes per goal and assist over the last two campaigns.
Watford need to sign a natural wide player this summer if head coach Quique Sanchez Flores is to play his favoured 4-2-3-1 system, and Berghuis looks to be the perfect player as the Hornets prepare for the start of the 2015/16 Premier League season.
