Arsenal media round-up: Bellerin set to be handed new long term deal

A round up of news stories this morning related to Arsenal.

The Daily Mail has reported that Arsenal defender Hector Bellerin is close to agreeing a new contract with the club.

The young defender did a decent job when he stepped into the side following a shoulder injury to Frenchman Mathieu Debuchy last season.

The paper has played down the idea that he’s about to return to his former employers Barcelona.

Former Arsenal midfielder Ray Parlour has told The Sport Review that he feels another centre back would be an ideal signing for Arsene Wenger.

Parlour has been quizzed on Arsenal’s summer business so far and suggested that his old side still need fresh players before the start of the season.

Arsenal have done well to sign Petr Cech, but missed out on Morgan Schneiderlin who has now linked up with Manchester United.

“In an ideal world, yes [Arsenal would sign another defender]. If you can get a good, top-class centre-half in the mould of Tony Adams, which is very hard to find, that would be ideal,” he said.

Arsenal defender Kieran Gibbs has been quoted by the Daily Mirror explaining what he sees as key for the club’s title big this season.

Gibbs is confident that Arsenal can compete in the Premier League, but has stressed the need for the side to keep everyone fully fit.

Injuries have been a real problem at Arsenal in particular, over the last few seasons.

“I think the team has grown in that time and if we can keep everyone fit then we can really aim for the league,” he said.
