Report: Sheffield Wednesday the latest of four Championship clubs linked to Bundesliga striker

Olympiastadion - Hertha BSC

Sheffield Wednesday have reportedly joined Blackburn Rovers, Nottingham Forest and Hull City in the race for Hertha Berlin striker Sandro Wagner.

According to German publication T-Online, Sheffield Wednesday have joined Blackburn Rovers, Nottingham Forest and Hull City in the race Hertha Berlin target man Sandro Wagner.

The report states that a number of clubs have been in contact with the German striker’s representatives and recorded their interest, with a special mention to the Championship quartet.

Two weeks ago, Sport Bild reported the interest from Forest, Hull and Blackburn and now it seems Wednesday have thrown their hat into the ring to sign the former German under-21 international.

Would Wagner be a good signing for a Championship club?

The 27-year-old didn’t have his best season in the last campaign and was mostly used off the bench in the final half-an-hour of games.

He failed to register a single goal or assist in the Bundesliga and it would be no surprise were the German top-flight club to allow the forward to move on to pastures new.

Physically, the forward is built for Championship football. He is big, strong and very good in the air and would cause opposition defences no end of problems with his presence up top.

Nevertheless, with just two goals from his last two seasons, his recent record doesn’t exactly show that he guarantees goals.

He has shown in the past that he can find the net on a regular basis, but it is definitely something that he needs to rediscover if he is make an impact in England.
