According to Gianluca Di Marzio, Aston Villa are in talks with Roma's sporting director Walter Sabatini over a potential deal for Italian forward Mattia Destro.
The report states that Sabatini is currently in London trying to thrash out a deal for Manchester City forward Edin Dzeko, while negotiating the sale of Destro with the West Midlands club.
The 24-year-old, who has been capped by his country on eight occasions, spent last season out on loan to AC Milan, where he scored eight goals in 34 appearances in all competitions.
Would Destro be a good signing for Villa?
If Tim Sherwood can convince Destro to join his side next season, then he will have pulled off one of the signings of the summer.
The forward, who was named in Italy’s provisional World Cup squad for Brazil 2014, has an outstanding goalscoring record in Serie A and still has age on his side.
Overall, since his debut in 2010, the forward has scored 41 goals in 6,791 minutes of league football, according to transfermrkt, which equates to roughly one goal every two games.
Sherwood is known for getting the very best out of his strikers, as shown with Emmanuel Adebayor at Tottenham Hotspur and Christian Benteke last season, so it could be a perfect match.
