Report: Newcastle still negotiating with Anderlecht for Chancel Mbemba

St James Park

Newcastle and Tottenham have both been linked with Chancel Mbemba this summer.

The Anderlecht defender looks destined for a summer move away from Belgium, and a report in HLN claims that Newcastle are still in negotiations concerning his transfer to St James’ Park.

The 20-year-old centre-back, a full Congolese international, has a lot of promise, and a selection of European clubs have been circling him for a number of weeks. The report states that Atletico Madrid, Wolfsburg and Borussia Monchengladbach are all looking to sign him, whilst Newcastle have been named an interested party in the past - as per HLN.

Tottenham Hotspur have also been moving to sign the youngster, according to Nieuwsblad, but it appears as if the Magpies are the team taking formal steps to sign Mbemba.

The latest report states that the Tyneside club have held talks with Anderlecht concerning his transfer, whilst attempting to finalise the deal to sign Aleksandar Mitrovic from the same club.

It is claimed that the Belgian club have ‘not found a solution’ to his future as of yet, but with the Magpies the only team planning a concrete approach for him, it is likely that Anderlecht will have to make a decision concerning Mbemba in the coming weeks.
