Report: Liverpool target sought-after Salomon Rondon to ease striker woes

Liverpool have reportedly turned their attention to Zenit frontman Salomon Rondon.

Liverpool are interested in signing Zenit St Petersburg striker Salomon Rondon, as per Italian news outlet Calcio News 24.

Reports suggest that the Reds have highlighted the 25-year-old as their next transfer target, as they attempt to strengthen a strike force that managed just eight goals between four players last season.

Christian Benteke was believed to Brendan Rodgers' top target, but with the Daily Star reporting that the Belgian is set to sign for Manchester United, latest speculation, as per Calcio News 24, suggests Liverpool have turned to Rondon and have now made him an offer.

The Reds will face competition from Wolfsburg and Roma in their attempts to land the front man, according to the report. However, the latter could yet withdraw their interest in the Venezuelan international if they manage to sign Manchester City's Edin Dzeko.

What do the stats say?

Rondon made 26 appearances for Zenit in the Russian Premier League last season, scoring 13 goals - four more than the Reds' top scorer Steven Gerrard. Having converted an impressive 30.8% of his total attempts at goal, he finished the campaign just two goals behind the division's top scorer; club team-mate Hulk.

Despite his finishing ability, he is by no means the most physically imposing striker available this summer, with the statistics highlighting his frailties. He found success in just 33% of his total attempted duels last season, including just 40 of his 109 headed duels, six of his 22 attempted dribbles and five of his 14 tackles.
