According to a report in the Italian publication TMW, Aston Villa have become the latest suitor of Roma’s Adem Ljajic, as they look set for a major cash windfall from the expected Christian Benteke sale.
The Villans are looking to heavily strengthen their squad this summer after spending much of last season engaged in a relegation scrap with the likes of Hull City, Newcastle United and Leicester City.
Christian Benteke’s late-season goals ultimately saved Tim Sherwood’s men, yet his likely departure - with the BBC reporting on Liverpool's willingness to meet his release clause - means the club have been busy attempting to bolster their ranks in other areas.
Idrissa Gueye has joined, a deal for Jordan Amavi is all-but done, as per the Daily Mail, TMW clam Sergi Darder is Villa-bound while the latest reports from Tuttomercato label Ljajic as their latest target.
“New suitor for AS Roma’s Adem Ljajic, the player being chased by Aston Villa. The British club will have fresh money following the almost-done sale of Christian Benteke to Liverpool,” the report states.
Serbian international Ljajic is an excellent attacking player, and who was only last month linked with a move to Manchester City as part of an Edin Dzeko swap-deal, as per Sky Sports Italia.
Comfortable with both feet and able to play out wide, the 23-year-old notched eight league goals for Roma last season as he helped the club retain their place in the Champions League.
He made 32 Serie A appearances last year, therefore it’s probable he’s in the club’s plans for the upcoming campaign, making Villa’s reported interest all the more astounding.
The new Premier League television deal has allowed clubs to flex their muscles financially, and with teams like West Ham and Villa plotting moves for top European players, it shows incredible ambition.
