According to Voetbal Nieuws, Tottenham Hotspur are among seven clubs chasing ‘French super talent’ Lucas Tousart.
The report states that Belgian giants RSC Anderlecht and Standard Leige are also in the race, with Southampton, Manchester City, Lyon and Marseille joining them to complete the list of the sides interested in the starlet.
The 18-year-old, who plays for Ligue 2 side Valenciennes, is a defensive midfielder and a regular pick for his country at under-19 level.
Last season, he made 17 appearances in the French second division but couldn’t stop his current employers from finishing in a lowly 16th position.
Would Tousart be a good replacement for Paulinho at Spurs?
Although the tag of ‘French super talent’, as he was dubbed in the Voetbal Nieuws report, could be considered exaggerated, there is no denying that Tousart is a player with a lot of potential.
At 18, he still has many years of development left and signing him up now would allow Spurs to develop him in the same way they have Nabil Bentaleb, allowing him to adjust to their system.
He would be regularly put through his paces in the U21 Premier League and could be considered the perfect replacement for Paulinho.
Although his career isn’t quite as distinguished as the Brazilian’s just yet, he would be the perfect player to call upon when cover is needed at senior level as it would aid his development to one day become a regular in Mauricio Pochettino’s side.
