Liverpool transfer round-up: Benteke move imminent, Mohamed Salah linked again

All the latest summer transfer news from Anfield...

According to BBC Sport, Liverpool are set to activate the release clause in Aston Villa striker Christian Benteke's contract ahead of a possible move to Anfield.

The Belgian striker's goalscoring exploits helped keep Villa in the Premier League last season, but he now looks set to leave Villa Park this summer.

BBC Sport report that Liverpool are poised to lodge a £32.5m bid for Benteke, which would activate his release clause, forcing Villa to accept the bid.

With Raheem Sterling sold to Manchester City earlier this week, Reds boss Brendan Rodgers is set to splash out on Benteke in a bid to improve his attacking options.

Elsewhere, Italian website Calcio Mercato Web report that Liverpool are set to pursue Chelsea winger Mohamed Salah again.

Manager Rodgers admitted to The Guardian 18 months ago that Liverpool wanted to sign the Egyptian international during his time at Basel, only to lose out to Chelsea.

Now, with the 23-year-old something of a misfit at Stamford Bridge after a loan spell with Fiorentina last summer, the Reds could return to finally bring him to Anfield, if reports are to be believed.
