A selection of the latest stories in the media involving Liverpool Football Club this Thursday morning.
Liverpool midfielder Joe Allen said the players let down manager Brendan Rodgers last season as the Reds finished without silverware and out of the Champions League places, the Liverpool Echo reports.
The Reds' season imploded last season after the FA Cup semi-final defeat to Aston Villa, which culminated in the humiliating 6-1 defeat to Stoke City on the final day of the Premier League campaign.
But Allen wants to put things right and get off to a good start this season, saying: “The players we’ve got here are all honest players who take responsibility.
“At the end of the day we were the ones who let the supporters down, the manager and the staff down and ourselves down.
“The start of last season was disappointing for us. We didn’t start the way we would have liked but turned it around at one point and had a good run from December through to March.
“In the last two months we dropped off again. To allow the standards and the levels to drop like that was what hurt the most."
Rickie Lambert, Adam Lallana and Dejan Lovren all made the move to Merseyside last summer and none have really made the impact they would have liked.
But Clyne is confident it won't be the case for him, saying: “I’m confident in my ability and the player I am and that I can make the next step up. I wouldn’t have moved if I didn’t think I was ready.
“I spoke to a few of them before coming and they told me about how good the club is and it would be exciting if I joined them. So yeah, I’m looking forward to it.”
The Liverpool Echo reports that the Reds are unwilling to pay the £32.5 million release clause, but Mignolet said: “I don’t know what’s happening there. That’s not my stuff and I’m not thinking about it.
“All I know is that Christian is a very good player.”
