Ross Turnbull agreed a deal to move to Leeds United.
As confirmed by the official Leeds website, Ross Turnbull completed a free transfer to Elland Road.
Signing from Barnsley, the 30-year-old brings experience to the club, as well as a career laden with success. He may have spent much of his career as a back-up option, but he has an FA Cup and Champions League medal to his name due to the time spent with Chelsea.
Arriving to provide cover for first-choice stopper Marco Silvestri, it is expected that Turnbull will spend the season as back-up to the Italian, providing experience when needed, as well as helping in the coaching side of the game.
The Middlesbrough trainee has also played for Doncaster Rovers in his career, joining Barnsley at the start of last season. He appeared 27 times for the club in 2014/15, although an injury prevented him from truly establishing himself at the club.
He has signed on a free transfer for the club, and following the confirmation of the deal, Leeds fans took to Twitter to express their reactions to the transfer. There was a mixed response to the deal, although many fans believe he is a great back-up at Championship level.
Ross Turnbull a really good understudy at Championship level for Silvestri. Our first XI already looks better than last year #LUFC— Dan O'Carroll (@DanOCarroll9) July 15, 2015
Turnbull is a good GK at this level. not just a backup, genuine ability to challenge Marco for number 1 if his form drops. #lufc— Marc #CellinoOut (@Ned_Bender) July 15, 2015
Turnbull won't be coming to sit on the bench, competition for the goalkeeping position now #lufc— Kirky (@kirky0110) July 15, 2015
Happy with Ross Turnbull. It looks like we might have a chance of some stabiilty over the next few years. #LUFC— James W. (@WebbJ20) July 15, 2015
