Joe Cole makes a prediction over the future of Micah Richards at Aston Villa

Aston Villa

Aston Villa midfielder Joe Cole feels Micah Richards has the longevity to succeed over an extended period of time.

Aston Villa midfielder Joe Cole has told the club’s official website that he feels Tim Sherwood has pulled off a coup in the form of Micah Richards.

Cole has suggested that the versatile defender has the longevity to be a key part of the side for up to the next ten years, with a desperation to show that Aston Villa’s faith in him is justified through his performances.

“He's still a kid really. He can play for another 10 years! I think he can be a brilliant signing for us,” he told avfc.co.uk.

“He will have a real drive to succeed too. You can already tell that from the way he's talking. He's desperate to do well.”

Longevity is very important

The long term option that Richards represents is important because he can be a constant in the backline of the club, which is vital in terms of consistency.

It’s going to be difficult for any manager if he has to regularly change important positions in his side every summer, but Richards can settle and Aston Villa can benefit from his best years in the Premier League.

Richards can develop positive relationships around the side, learning about the way each of his defensive colleagues plays and they can learn everything about him in turn.

Desperation to succeed

He’s also bring a mentality to the table, which will delight Tim Sherwood and his assistant Ray Wilkins.

A positive mentality is something that Sherwood literally represents and the same being evident in Richards, has the potential effect of being able to rub off on the players.

It should all help to create more of a winning mentality at Villa Park moving forward.
