Don Hutchison: Arsenal should play their reserves in the Champions League

The Premier League pundit feels the Gunners should throw all their eggs into one basket.

Former Sunderland and West Ham United midfielder Don Hutchison has offered a controversial method for Arsenal to mount a title challenge on Twitter.

Indeed, Hutchison, who is now a pundit for Premier League TV, revealed a discussion he had held with an Arsenal fan and came to the following conclusion:

If it was unclear whether the former midfielder was proposing the theory himself, meanwhile, Hutchison made his stance clear when defending it against criticism from a follower.

Genius in madness?

As much as Hutchison's suggested method will never ever happen (well, let's say 99.9% unlikely), there may be method in his proposed madness.

Arsenal's finest were out on show against Monaco in the Champions League last season and simply buckled under the pressure - as they always seem to do in Europe. Why not play a weakened team, then, who may even try harder and have less to lose, in order to focus on a title challenge?

The only hole in the theory, of course, is the fact Arsenal's strongest may still fall short in the Premier League, as their biggest problem has always been their mentality - or lack thereof in big games.
